OUR VISION
To build a connected network of coastal communities across Aotearoa where people and the environment thrive as one.
Outflow Trust is creating a movement that restores coastlines, strengthens communities, and transforms lives. Starting from our proven Tauranga model, we’re expanding across the Bay of Plenty and, in time, to every coastal town in New Zealand.
By working alongside councils, local businesses, tertiary providers and fellow charities, we’re building pathways that empower people, from troubled youth to those facing disability or hardship, to gain skills, confidence and qualifications that lead to lasting employment and education.
Our purpose is to unite people and organisations through shared action, weaving a web of collaboration that restores the environment, reconnects people with the whenua, and ensures everyone gets a Head Start in life.
OUR KAUPAPA
Pollution and sediment continue to threaten Tauranga Moana, degrading our beaches, harming wildlife, and affecting the health of our coastal ecosystems. At the same time, many people in our community face significant barriers to gaining work experience, confidence, and direction, especially rangatahi, neurodiverse individuals, disabled people, and those experiencing financial hardship.
Headstart was created to bring these two challenges together and turn them into opportunity. Through paid environmental mahi, hands-on training, and personalised mentoring, participants gain real skills, real confidence, and real pathways into further study or meaningful employment.
By restoring the environment and restoring people at the same time, Headstart strengthens our communities, supports local resilience, and helps build a healthier future for Tauranga Moana and beyond.
